We introduce a new special guest in our brewery. It is India Pale Ale (IPA) and its history comes from Great Britain. IPAs was brewed for long distance transports to India and with its high bitterness was inspiration for European brewmasters to create bitter lagers. Our IPA is top-fermented beer brewed from Czech ingredientes and two kinds of American hops (Amarillo and Cascade). It combines full malt body with high hop bitterness and hoppy aroma. All the year round.
Bottom fermentation, medium full and medium bitter whole malt beer. Vienna lager and Bavarian Märzen were the inspiration for its composition. The color is closer to Märzen and the bitterness closer to Vienna lager. Märzen, Czech March beer, used to be cooked in March, which is still rather cold. Nowadays we have mechanical cooling and, therefore, we cook amber all year round.
First beer we have cooked here after many years of break. Its origins reach back to Munich from the first half of the 19th century. Our St. Norbert tastes dryer and bitterer than the Munich lager. Whole malt well hopped beer, showing the Munich, caramelized and roasted malt in its taste.
We introduce new special dark wheat beer. This top-fermented beer made from wheat and barley malts has distinctive aroma ( nutmeg-like, gingerbread-like, fruity, banana-like), dark-copper colour, thick head and high carbonation. Bitterness and hoppy aroma are on low levels, used hops Motueka freshes little bit fruity aroma. Malty taste combines wheat malt with chocolate character of dark barley malt, but without any bitterness from roasting. Monastic brewery Strahov wishes you fresh and sweet-smelling start to the new year.
Bottom-fermented amber beer, which combines all-malt taste from the best Czech malts with high bitterness of the best hops - Czech red Saaz hops. During our shrovetide in February you can attend typical Czech hog-killing, which you can usualy see in Czech villages. Hand-made sausages and hog-killing meals go well with this special beer.
Pilsner type – world famous name, our Easter beer belongs to this category Cooked on three mashes from only one type of malt – Czech malt and Žatec’s hops. The medium fermentation, medium body and higher bitterness make this beer one of the most common beers in the world, known as Bohemian Pilsner.
St. Norbert follows the tradition of cooking ales - wheat beers in Bohemia. This beer is manufactured using the oldest procedure for beer cooking – top fermentation – documented in our territory from 505 when Petr Vok of Rožmberk granted to the Town of Třebová the right to cook ales. Wheat beers are currently experiencing a renaissance, and they are loved for their lightness and freshness, especially in summer months. Also, the fans of less bitter beer love it for its low content of hops.
This beer is non-filtered, with a content of ale yeasts causing dullness and, furthermore, with a content of wheat malt (50%) which causes the light color. The yeast of the natural top fermentation produces esters and phenols, which develop a wide palette of aromatic tones and flavors. For example, we can find here – rose-apple, nutmeg apple, vanilla, bananas and from citruses to smoked scents. Czech beers of the Pilsen type are characteristic with their typical bitterness (35 – 45 units of bitterness) are an opposite to wheat beers, which have 10 – 17 units of bitterness.
The St. Norbert wheat beer is a very brisk and refreshing drink.
Whole malt, bottom fermented beer cooked from freshly harvested hops. The taste is malt with traces (tones) of caramel and roasted malt, but at the same time with higher bitterness and hops flavor. In Germany and other places in the world, it belongs under the Bock category.
Sv. Norbert November Ale is top-fermented, dark copper coloured beer with savorous taste from sweet caramel to nice, but intensive bitterness. Bitterness and mainly rich aroma is due to used hops ( Chinook, Cenntenial and Motueka). Our November Ale is close to American-Style Brown Ale category and will help us to get over long period remains to time we will pipe in X-Mas Special beer.
The strongest beer from our collection. Whole malt bottom fermented beer. The flavor shows the used Czech, Munich, caramel and carapils malt. Its strength – bodiness is balanced with a respectable load of hops. Perfect harmony. Enjoy the best from our fields and hops-gardens in the Christmas time. In the world, it belongs in the Doppelbock category.
