Dear friends and beer lovers,
After a quarter-century of brewing beer at Strahov, the time has come for a significant change. As we approach the 25th anniversary of our brewery's opening, we've decided on a rebranding that better reflects our current identity and future direction.
From St. Norbert to Strahov Brewery
When we reopened our restaurant with microbrewery in 2000 after extensive reconstruction – following nearly a century of closure since 1907 – we bore the name Strahov Monastic Brewery and St. Norbert Restaurant. All our beers were named after Saint Norbert, founder of the Premonstratensian order.
Over the years, however, we realized that with our growing number of beers and the increasing number of "monastic" establishments in the area, we needed to refine our identity. Back in 2000, we couldn't have imagined how many different beers we'd eventually brew!
From now on, we're simply called Strahov Brewery. We're keeping the St. Norbert name only for our most popular beer – St. Norbert Amber. This signature brew of ours, which we produce the most and which has won the hearts of thousands of customers, remains true to the name of the founder of the Premonstratensian order.
25 Years of Tradition, Innovation and Growth
Our journey began with opening the restaurant in 2000, then we brewed our first batch – Dark 14° – in 2001. Since then, significant milestones have followed.
First decade of growth: In 2008 and 2010, we gradually added three new tanks, allowing us to expand brewing capacity. 2009 was pivotal for us – our first brewmaster Martin Matuška left, having laid the foundations of our brewery. By 2010, we could offer our guests 10 different types of beer on tap throughout the year.
Era of success and awards: 2011 brought our first gold award for IPA. A year later, in 2012, we received our first two awards for Weizenbock Dunkel and Brown Ale – the first recipes from our current brewmaster Jan Martinka, who leads the brewery to this day.
Latest expansion: Another significant milestone came in 2019 when we took over the entire complex and added the former malting house building, where our popular beer hall now operates.
Over these 25 years, we've grown from a small restaurant brewery into a thriving business that successfully combines tradition with modern brewing trends. All thanks to you – our loyal customers and friends, whom we warmly thank for years of support.
