Strahov Sake & Food Pairing: A Japanese Evening with Chef Kotaro Isobe
On Thursday, November 19, we invite you to Pivovar Strahov for a special evening celebrating Japanese cuisine, sake and traditional calligraphy. We’ll be welcoming Kotaro Isobe, Head Chef at the Embassy of Japan in Prague, who will create an exclusive tasting menu paired with three carefully selected sake varieties.
Kotaro Isobe is a Japanese chef with extensive international experience. His career includes working at the acclaimed Ogata restaurant in Kyoto and serving as Head Chef at the Embassy of Japan in Denmark. He has also received awards in RED U-35, a prestigious Japanese culinary competition. His approach to cooking combines a deep respect for Japanese traditions with a focus on seasonality and locally sourced ingredients.
Three Japanese dishes, three styles of sake and three unique flavour pairings. Together, we’ll explore the diversity of sake from Nanbu Bijin, a renowned Japanese sake producer with a history dating back to 1902. Based in Ninohe, in Japan’s Iwate Prefecture, its name translates to “Southern Beauty”.
Throughout the evening, you’ll have the opportunity to taste three distinct expressions of Nanbu Bijin sake: the fuller-bodied Tokubetsu Junmai with its rich umami character, the delicate and aromatic Junmai Ginjo with subtle fruity notes, and the elegant sparkling Awasake with its fine bubbles. Each sake will be paired with one of three Japanese dishes created by Chef Kotaro Isobe especially for the occasion.
The evening will also include a Japanese calligraphy workshop, giving you the chance to try this traditional art form yourself and take home your own piece of calligraphy as a keepsake.
